Smart Growth America is seeking a detail-oriented, outgoing, organized, intellectually curious person with a great sense of humor to serve as Outreach Fellow. The Fellow will work on several different projects and programs within the Government Affairs and Outreach team including: helping to build and develop a network of local elected officials – organizing meetings, drafting materials, tracking participation, etc.; growing the Sustainable Communities Network, a community of people all over the country interested in the federal Partnership for Sustainable Communities – drafting blog posts and newsletter content, assisting with publicizing webinars and other events, making or maintaining contact with people in the network, etc.; and helping to manage the Learning Network, an online network of federal grantees – curating website content, assisting with community management responsibilities, responding to questions from members of the Network, and more. Requirements: Fellowship positions require a self-motivated, detail-oriented person with excellent writing, oral communication, research, and organizational skills as well as the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Candidates should have a strong interest in smart growth, economic development, transportation, community growth or related areas. Candidate must be comfortable talking and networking with people on the phone, online and in person, be an excellent writer, love a challenge, excel at managing multiple projects at the same time with competing priorities and deadlines. Candidate should have experience with content management systems (through Drupal in particular), experience community organizing, or with political or advocacy campaigns. Timeframe and location: Fellowship positions are full-time, 40 hours a week. The Fellowship is available immediately and will continue through June 30, 2012. Extending a Fellowship for a total of 12 months is possible for exceptional candidates. Position is located in Washington, DC. Benefits: Fellows receive a stipend of $1,500 per month. In addition, Fellows receive six days of paid sick leave or vacation per six-month Fellowship and will have paid leave on all federal holidays that occur within the tenure at Smart Growth America.
