Support Smart Growth America's successful
Governors' Institute on Community Design and burgeoning technical assistance program for state and local governments. As an integral part of a small team, the Policy Development and Implementation Fellow will provide research, development, logistical, and administrative support for policy workshops for governors, multistate summits for state and local officials, and other similar initiatives. The position also involves some blogging, basic website maintenance, and social networking.
Requirements
Candidates should:
- be self-motivated and detail-oriented;
- possess excellent writing, oral communication, and research skills;
- be able to work independently with minimal supervision;
- have a strong interest in smart growth, transportation issues, or related areas;
- have at least a bachelor's degree and either an educational background or work experience in transportation policy, urban planning, environmental studies, real estate, finance, public policy, or a related field; and
- be highly computer literate with specific experience with web research, database management, Microsoft Office suite of programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and HTML/CSS and/or other open source web interfaces are a definite plus.
Timeframe and location
While this Fellowship position can either be part-time or full-time (20-40 hours a week), full-time applicants are preferred. The Fellowship is available immediately and will continue through June 30, 2012. Extending the Fellowship is possible for exceptional candidates. Position is located in Washington, DC.
Benefits
Full-time (40 hours per week) Fellows receive a stipend of $1,500 per month, with part-time Fellows receiving compensation based on hours worked. In addition, Fellows receive six days of paid sick leave or vacation per six-month Fellowship and will have paid leave on all federal holidays that occur within the tenure at Smart Growth America.
