What’s your favorite street in America? Our staff weighs in for new Facebook campaign

If you had to choose your favorite street in the United States, what would it be? Could you explain why you love it? Those are the questions we posed to our entire Smart Growth America staff for a new Facebook campaign called ‘What’s Your Street?’, intended to showcase great places that embody smart growth principles across the country.

Whether it’s a bustling, skyscraper-lined downtown block, a charming historic main street or even a sleepy rural outpost, two new streets are shared on Facebook every week, each one personally chosen by a member of our staff. An accompanying quote sheds some light as to why the street was chosen and what makes it such a great place to be.

We’ve announced three streets as part of the series so far, including:

Main Street in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania
Laura Searfoss, Associate, National Complete Streets Coalition

North Higgins Avenue in Missoula, Montana
Roger Millar, Vice President & Director of Smart Growth America’s Leadership Institute

Fort Wayne Avenue in Richmond, Indiana
Masumi Kikkawa, Associate, Policy Development & Implementation

To say people are noticing their cities being featured across the Facebook universe is an understatement. Local businesses, news outlets and even city mayors from each city have shared their excitement with us and their friends, sharing the pictures over 400 times and reaching nearly 17,000 individuals since the campaign kicked off only two weeks ago. WFMZ in Bethlehem even featured the series on their local television news.

In addition to sharing our own favorite places in America, we are challenging our Facebook followers to have a hand in the campaign. Become a fan of Smart Growth America on Facebook to see each new street and to share your own favorite with us!
