Smart Growth America is seeking a Web and Tech Manager to manage the design and implementation of web assets to facilitate our online advocacy work.
DESCRIPTION: Smart Growth America is looking for an IT/web professional to manage its current web assets and the rollout of new CMS systems. We are seeking someone with advocacy experience who can aid our director of online communications in day-to-day needs for advocacy emails, micro sites, and online campaigns, among others.
Our ideal candidate would be someone who has experience with issue-based advocacy, designing and building websites for nonprofits or issue-based orgs, planning and deploying a new website and maintaining small local networks. We're looking for someone who is more than a novice on the following platforms and systems:
- Democracy in Action/salsa www.democracyinaction.org
- joomla!
- Wordpress
- Salesforce — Experience integrating with Democracy in Action a huge plus.
- Google apps
- Basecamp (and other 37signals products)
You must like people more than you like code. This is first and foremost an advocacy position. We're especially interested in a candidate who is intrigued by the power of social tools and the radically easy group-forming and leveraged action that they can enable.
We'd prefer someone who has worked previously with advocacy groups or other non-profits and someone who has managed transition plans, moving a company or a campaign from one system to another. We'd also like someone who can write well and can give good presentations or has experience in training or teaching and can manage multiple projects and multiple clients.
REQUIREMENTS: We will only consider you if you can code (in HTML and CSS of course, but you can also impress us if you can speak Perl, AJAX, PhP or RoR or some other web framework.) Javascript is used frequently on our existing sites, and knowledge of JS would be helpful. Democracy In Action's modifiable script is also based on JS syntax. PhP is also high on our list due to extensive use of Wordpress on several sites.
You should also be willing to do tech support grunt work for our small office. (10-15 macs, one server.) We work mostly on Macs but would prefer someone who is OS ambidextrous.
Compensation is negotiable — and will be based on experience.
HOW TO APPLY: Send a short email with a link to your online bio/portfolio and a pdf of your resume to Paula Offord pofford (at) smartgrowthamerica.org. No phone calls, please.
