Manager of Housing Advocacy

Aditya Mistry

Aditya Mistry is the Manager of Housing Advocacy at Smart Growth America, where he leads the organization's federal housing and land use advocacy efforts and oversees its work with LOCUS and the National Brownfields Coalition.

Aditya has worked across local, state, and federal policy, with experience spanning public health, urban forestry, building decarbonization, human rights, criminal justice reform, housing, and economic development. Prior to SGA, he was at American Forests, where he engaged with Members of Congress and federal agencies to advance policies that expand and protect urban tree canopy, especially in disadvantaged communities. Earlier, at Freedman Consulting, he supported mission-driven nonprofits and philanthropies in achieving equitable policy and programmatic outcomes for the communities they serve.

Aditya holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Sciences from the University of California, Berkeley, as well as a Master of Public Administration in Environmental Science and Policy from Columbia University. While at Columbia, he supported the Merton Housing Fund and Groundwork Arkansas (formerly Groundwork Northwest Arkansas) in developing and implementing pilots for a novel philanthropic model to fund environmentally sustainable workforce housing construction.
