Salimatou Doumbouya
Salimatou Doumbouya is an Intern at the SGA’s Center for Zoning Solutions, where she supports the Housing and Development Team with a focus on Form-Based Codes. She is currently a graduate student at The George Washington University pursuing a Master’s degree in Sustainable Urban Planning.
Salimatou earned a Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) from the CUNY New York City Tech, where her academic work integrated structural design, conceptual design, and community-centered solutions. During her undergraduate studies, she served as Student Trustee at CUNY and Chair of the University Student Senate, representing more than 250,000 students across NYC’s five boroughs. In this role, she collaborated with policymakers, advocacy organizations, and administrators and led the campaign for free transportation for CUNY students.
She also interned with the NYC Waterfront Permits Unit, issuing permits and guiding applicants to ensure compliance with building codes and documentation standards. Salimatou is the founder of Building A Brighter African Diaspora (BBAD), an organization that supports students and early-career professionals through mentorship, research, project management, and education to address urban challenges and promote economic growth through small business creation.
She is passionate about building thriving communities through effective policy, sustainable development, and an efficient built environment.
