<p>After years as one of the most dangerous states in the country for walking, state and municipal agencies across Florida have been looking for tangible ways to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety over the past few years, and the Florida Department of Transportation has made notable strides to do so with its Complete Streets Implementation initiative.</p>
<p>One of FDOT’s most recent achievements has been the adoption of eight context classifications to guide road design decisions. This approach acknowledges that different types of roads serve different types of needs — and users — and must be designed accordingly.</p>
