National Brownfields Coalition

Our Work

The National Brownfields Coalition is jointly managed by Smart Growth America and the Center for Creative Land Recycling. The Coalition raises awareness about, as well as develops and advocates for policies and practices that support the remediation and redevelopment of brownfields nationwide. The Coalition pursues collaborative efforts that:

  • Advocates for federal legislation that authorizes and funds brownfields cleanup and redevelopment like The Brownfields Redevelopment Tax Incentive Reauthorization Act of 2023 
  • Supports the improvement of federal environmental liability regulations;
  • Convenes national leaders in brownfield cleanup and reuse regularly to increase their expertise, leadership, and relationships on important brownfield policy topics.

The National Brownfields Coalition is a non-partisan alliance of public interest organizations, academics, as well as public and private sector professionals who develop and advocate for policies and practices that support the responsible cleanup and reuse of underutilized, blighted, or environmentally impacted land. Our mission is to educate, advocate, and convene stakeholders nationally to advance the social, economic, public health, environmental, and quality of life benefits of environmental cleanup and reuse for all communities.
